Kierin | Onchain_Edge

In the recent wave of cryptocurrency growth, tokens like Pepe and ATOR have experienced an insane price performance in a short period of time.

New to crypto research?

Finding promising projects early is hard.

Don't rely on influencers for info, or you'll get rekt.

You first need to understand the Information Flow in crypto…

1. Understanding Information Flow in Crypto

Information flow is one of the most essential aspects of crypto investing. If you don’t understand information flow and you are always losing money, that means you are getting your information too late.

If you are getting your information from Facebook, then you are probably at the lowest end of the food chain and will hear about popular coins last.

That means you will end up as exit liquidity.

The more you move to the right, the more work you need to do to find alpha, but the more lucrative your findings will be.

You need to find good sources, good content creators/threadors, or understand how to get the information you need from project teams or by analyzing onchain wallets. ( We will talk about that in the next section)

Actionable: Diversify your information sources. Don't solely rely on one channel for all your updates.

Identifying Reliable Information Sources

For effective crypto investment, you need trustworthy sources:

1. Tracker Sites

Platforms such as CoinGecko, Coincheckup, CoinMarketCal, and DeFiLlama focus on metrics and facts, providing unbiased project comparisons.

Actionable: Bookmark these tracker sites and visit them frequently to stay up-to-date.

2. Narrative Trading With CoinGecko

It’s good to follow the current narrative when looking for a new altcoin to buy.

To see what the new narrative currently might be, I like to look at the Coincheckup categories page and filter by 24h

Top Crypto Categories by Marketcap

Over the past 24 hours, the existing categories have demonstrated good performance.

  • Kommunitas launchpad (I have no clue what this is. I Might need to dive deeper)

  • Reddit points

  • Farming-as-a-Service

  • NFT Marketplace (NFT season coming back?)

This gives me an idea of the protocols people are interested in and what to research further.

Narrative Trading With DeFiLlama

When analyzing money flow across different chains like ETH, BNB, ARB, and OP, I prefer using DeFiLlama Chains.

I filter by 7-day change and consider the number of protocols or DApps available.

In the screenshot below, there are a few chains that have caught my eye:

DeFiLlama Chains

  • Milkomeda C1 with $1.66m TVL (Quite interesting!)

  • Juno

  • Scroll (I’ve heard of scroll but need to dive deeper)

By analyzing ecosystems with increasing Total Value Locked (TVL), I can identify interesting projects.

With the increase in TVL, there is a higher likelihood of capital flowing into other projects within the same ecosystem.

Watch where the money flows!

3. Major Crypto News Sites

Knowing what’s happening is essential. If you don’t have time to do the news research yourself, you need to stay up-to-date with crypto news sites.

CoinDesk, CoinTelegraph, and Decrypt are authority figures in crypto news.

However, they might occasionally feature promotional content and wrong information.

Cryptopanic news aggregator

Always verify the information's authenticity. You can also use a crypto news aggregator like cryptopanic to get a quick market overview.

4. Crypto Newsletters

Thanks to chads in the crypto space, so much information is available for free.

Newsletters such as Lin's Leverage and arndxt_xo’s threading on the edge provide great Crypto newsletters packed with high-quality research.

5. Crypto Twitter

Twitter, a hub for real-time crypto updates, also contains repetitive info. For excellent alpha, focus on smaller accounts like:

But there’s more: arndxt_xo dropped this bombshell of an article a few days ago with some incredibly undervalued small crypto Twitter accounts, creating high-quality crypto research for free.

This is something you need to check out:

6. Crypto Twitter Cashtags

You can use cashtags [$ + Coin Ticker] on Twitter to find mentions of a coin.

Here’s an example using $FXS

Actionable: If you want to find good threadors that wrote a good thread about a coin that has recently pumped a lot, you can use the cashtag and search for content posted by Twitter accounts before there was a massive rally.

Let’s take $ATOR as an example.

You want to search Twitter with the $ATOR cashtag and look for in-depth analysis that was posted before the 22nd September 2023.

You can also use the advanced twitter search to narrow the results:

Here are some Chad accounts that mentioned $ATOR before the 22nd of September

6. Crypto Telegram News Aggregators

Two chads (C^4 & Kirbs Crypto Alerts) provide free daily summaries on what is happening in the crypto space:

C^4 (10k followers)

C^4 telegram channel

Kirbs Crypto Alerts (6k followers)

7. Private Crypto Communities

Telegram or Discord communities, such as DeFi Dojo or Primapes discord, are perfect for getting research and asking beginner questions.

It's important to be cautious as scammers may target new users.

While YouTube is valuable for beginners, it often carries outdated info. Focus on timeless content and learn how to do fundamental research and technical analysis yourself.

Closing Thoughts

As I wrap up this edition, I'd like to stress the importance of continual learning in the crypto space.

The strategies and platforms I've shared in this article have served me well, but the crypto space is constantly evolving.

Stay curious, remain adaptable, and always be willing to dive deeper.

The more time you spend honing your skills, the more profitable you will be during the next bull run.

Cheers!
